Theories of Pneumatisation

ثبت نشده
چکیده

This theory sees the growth of mastoid as a response to its muscle bearing duties resulting in a separation of the inner and outer plates due to pull of Muscles. In the potential space thus formed air enters simply as a result of atmospheric communication via eustachian tube. Blockage of this middle ear communication before completion of pneumatisation will result in variations or loss of pneumatization.

Arrested pneumatization: witness of paranasal sinuses development?

OBJECTIVES Recent radiological studies have demonstrated that formation of the sphenoid sinus is preceded by a phase of fatty transformation of the bone marrow, and then by a phase of fat involution prior to the appearance of an aerated cavity and that this process can sometimes be interrupted, resulting in the persistence of images of arrested pneumatisation. The objective of the study was to ...

The pneumatisation of anterior clinoid process is not associated with any predictors that might be recognised preoperatively.

The anterior clinoid process (ACP) is usually removed during surgeries of proximal internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms. However, some ACPs present with air cells originating from the sphenoid or/and ethmoid sinus. In surgeries containing a clinoidectomy of a pneumatised process, up to 40% of patients experience cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea. The aim of this study was to explore the ...

Evaluation of the anatomical variation in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses of patients with cleft lip and palate using cone beam computed tomography.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of anatomical variation in nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses by comparing a unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) group with a non-syndromic control group using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). SUBJECTS AND METHODS This study included 24 UCLP patients in the UCLP group and 24 non-syndromic patients in the control group. Coro...

A Unique Case of Pneumatised Styloid Process with Cholesteatoma

Pneumatisation of styloid process is a very rare finding and has never been reported previously. We present a unique case of a pneumatised styloid process with a cholesteatoma arising within the cavity. We describe the clinical features, associated radiological findings, and management of this lesion.

Anatomic variations of posterior paranasal sinuses and optic nerve.

Aim To define direct anatomical relations of the sphenoidal (alae minores), ethmoidal sinuses and optic nerve, with an emphasis on determining the effect of age on pneumatisation and dehiscence. Methods This retrospective, descriptive study involved 60 consecutive patients: 30 patients younger than 30 and30 patients older than 60 years of age. All patients underwent computerized tomography(CT)....
